SuperSport – OB1 & OB3 24-Camera
Category:

The SuperSport OB1 and OB3 form a 24-camera HD production system split over two double expander vehicles, built by C2S for SuperSport in Nigeria. Instead of large articulated trailers, SuperSport wanted two smaller and more mobile rigid-chassis trucks. As a result, the vehicles join together on location and remain easy to manoeuvre on Nigerian roads, while a user-friendly design supports a developing local crew.

SuperSport – OB1 & OB3 24-Camera OB Truck Split Over Two Double Expander Vehicles, Nigeria

THE BRIEF

SuperSport wanted to enhance its coverage of Nigerian sports and prepare for HD. Because the local skill set in Nigeria was still developing, the new OBs had to be as user-friendly as possible. Therefore, the system design focused on quick set-up, simple operation and easy upgrades.

Moreover, Africa’s roads are often difficult for large vehicles, being narrow, winding and frequently in poor condition. For this reason, SuperSport needed all the functionality of state-of-the-art OB units in a more mobile and versatile form. Instead of the usual single-truck solution on an articulated trailer, SuperSport therefore chose two smaller, rigid-chassis trucks that join together on location and are easier to manoeuvre on Nigerian roads.

How the SuperSport OB1 and OB3 work together

The main truck houses production, VT/EVS control and audio, with a Sony MVS-8000 2.5 M/E vision mixer, Evertz VIPA multiviewers and a Yamaha M7CL 48-fader console. Meanwhile, the rack truck covers engineering and satellite, including a Snell Sirius 288×288 HD router, five EVS XT2+ six-channel replay machines and an Evertz fibre solution for 96 paths. Together, the two vehicles offer the flexibility of a large OB with the mobility of rigid trucks.

C2S Media designs, coach-builds and integrates new OB vehicles for broadcasters across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
